Friday Funny- Complete Randomness

It's Friday! I'm so close to the break in the end of semester/session tension I can feel it. I can't see it yet, but I know it's just around the corner. It's that time of the school year season where everything just crunches together, so I get a little tweaked during these last few weeks. I would love to be one of those completely unflappable, gracious under any circumstance people, but let's just agree it's a Personal Safety Day in the B House.

It's a bit random around here, with everyone's activities coming to the year end, so today I'll celebrate that randomness with completely unconnected thoughts-as if to imply all my other thoughts are somehow woven together in a cohesive manner. Sheesh. I'm crackin' myself up already.

THE Talk continues... Z1 actually said the "V" word the other day. It was just strange hearing that word come out of my 11 yr old's mouth. We've transitioned to using the real and appropriate body part names, which is a good thing, a growing thing. Then he asked me if it was The Magic Lamp. HUH? I'm still trying to figure that one out.

I misspelled the name Beethoven this week. I thought I was going to have to go lie down. When my sister found out she said, dryly,"I thought I felt the universe wobble today."

Hhmph. Clearly she does not sympathize with what that mishap did to my psyche.

It's been raining a lot here in The Lou. On Tuesday, it took me an hour and a half- NO LIE- to get my hair contained. I washed it with a salon shampoo and it made my hair so full. Scary to small children full. I looked like this character but only blonde:

I ended up pulling back into a huge bun on the back of my head. It was the only way to make it safely through the day.

Yours, looking forward to the break in the clouds!

Friday Funny- If I Can't See It, It Must Be Okay...

It's that time of the week- Friday Funny!

But first, a shout out to the Berg Twins- Adam and Eric. Happy 11th Birthday!

***********
About a week ago, I found a beautiful lock of hair in the master bath. About three inches long, it had a wonderful chestnut color and a bit of curl tapering to the end. I couldn't imagine from where it had come, as it was not my color nor The Hub's. It didn't look like either of the children's. And after Z2's hair cutting debacle a few springs ago, she knew far better than to cut her hair. Except of course, when she renewed her lesson three months ago. Nonetheless, as it did not match anyone's hair color (or so I thought), I was a bit perplexed. Just what was going on in my master bath? Hmmm.....

Last night, while getting ready for bed, I found yet another lock of hair. This one was quite thicker. I picked it up and feeling it in my hands, I knew. This was no secret girlfriend in my bathroom, but my own  son's hair! "Good night!" I thought. "He's cutting his hair. What on earth?!?!" He had already fallen asleep, so the questioning would have to wait.

This morning he toddled (yes, at age 11, the first sleepy walks in the morning are still toddling) into the kitchen and sleepily snuggled into my arms.I buried my face in the crown of his head. Inhaling deeply, I rubbed my nose slightly in his hair. And that's when I felt it... the unevenness in the thickness of that thatch of hair.

"Son," I started,"Have you been cutting your hair?"

"Yep," he said, matter of factly.

"Uhm... Why?" I asked.

"It's the sticky-uppy pieces back there. I can't get them to lay down, so I'm just cutting them off. If I can't see them, I don't have to comb them."

True, but how shall we explain a bald spot at age 11?

Yours, hiding all the scissors,

Melissa

Friday Fun- I'm STILL Random

I have to say, dear readers, I'm just not feeling very funny today. I might even be a little bit cranky. Perhaps I'm coming up on a Personal Safety Day. They take a bit to brew, and you know, if I'm going to go all out and declare one, I figure I should really work it and make it a good one.

This morning was borderline. The Hub was being rather annoying. And I looked at my son and said,"Go smack your father, please."

And he did! He walked right up to him and said,"This is from Mom." and laid one right on The Hub's booty (And my kids don't hold back. They can smack!)

Don't you love it when obedience kicks in? Why can't it be like this when I say,"Go make your bed" or "Stop annoying your brother"?

And in other news, Day 10 out of 12 that it has been raining here in The Lou. I don't know how much more my psyche or my hair can take. Think Mulberry Bush. In fact, just look at the painting at the top of this blog and imagine my face in it. I like to think of it as performance art. I call it "The Chaos Within". That's about the state of things!

My neighbor brought some of his wine over yesterday. I'm not talking dandelion wine. Or strawberry wine. He's a kiwi transplant and he works his vineyards in New Zealand and Oregon. I bought a case of his Savignon Blanc (yes, it was a total splurge, but well worth it) and he was bringing it downstairs for me. He takes it over to the shelf, only to find that I still had three bottles of his Pinot Noir left. He looks at me and says (in his British New Zealand accent),"From LAST year? Man, Melissa! You've got a drinking problem! That should have been drunk a LONG time ago!"

BTW, if anyone does have an interest in wines, you can see his wines here. You will want to look at the wines that are from the New Zealand vineyards (Marlborough, McGinlay's Vineyard). The Oregon wines are nice, but the NZea wines, wow!

But here's to Friday, obedience in the right moment, new wine flavors and hair that continues to grow, for all of which I am thankful. Have a fabulous weekend, Mac-n-Chick Readers!

Yours, wishing the rain would give me a little space so I could miss it,

Melissa
