Friday Fun- Thank a Vet!

Today being Veteran's Day, I thought I might post the following story:

An international summit meeting was taking place about 10 years ago. Among the people present were heads of state, prime ministers, generals and presidents representing some of the most powerful nations in the world. It was the evening before the actual summit would take place and everyone had gathered for a state dinner party. During the course of conversation, a French general looked directly at a top American general, and speaking rather loudly said," I suppose we will ALL be speaking in English for the entire summit. It's so infuriating. Must we always speak English?"

Before the American general could reply, a top English military man replied,"We speak English at these meetings because the Americans ensured you would not have to speak German for the rest of your life."

Thank you, Veterans, past, present, one and all, for ensuring that I will have the freedoms I so enjoy, especially freedom of speech and the write to speak any language I CHOOSE.
Sincerely Yours,

Melissa

Friday Fun!

To give you an idea of how the B house operates on a Friday morning, take a look at this video of Zoe and Lola. We're pretty go with the flow, because, well, Friday is SO close to Saturday that we should kinda have a Saturday feel, right?

So we continue to play. :)

Yours, waiting for Sunday to get here so I can finish!

Friday Fun.... Postponed

Hello Dear Readers,

Today I had planned to tell you all about LOLA. But, hello! My business partner already did that for me. (That's just so wrong, don't you think? Even thought I DID miss my Monday blog, I think that's cruel and unusual punishment! DANG!)

It's still a good story, and I fully intend to tell it. However, watching the news this morning, I feel a little selfish posting something frivilous and funny after watching the massive devestation in Japan. It's just a reminder of how good my life is and how it can all be gone without warning. Can you imagine being suddenly homeless? With NOTHING? Maybe just the clothes on your back and possibly a cell phone if you happened to get it in time. I cannot even begin to wrap my mind around that.

And while I don't know anyone in Japan, have no ties there, I still can't help but think that these are people. With family members. Babies. Grandmas. Brothers. Best of friends. These are times when we will see the worst and the very best of humanity.

If you are even thinking about doing something, consider the following organizations:

Service International: (636) 532-9008 (right here in The Lou!)

These are two trusted and amazing organizations that will definitely bring relief to Japan. Just in case you are considering.

Today will be a day when many of us hug our kids extra tight.

Yours, breathing in deeply,

Melissa

Friday Fun!

It's Friday!!!! Everybody get up and shake your money maker 'cause my favorite day of the week it here! And it's not just ANY sort of Friday, mind you. This is the Friday where my two most FAVORITE words of March are uttered. My children will be celebrating it in a few weeks, and they will have a deliriously happy Friday, but this one is MINE. AAALLLLLLLLLL MINE. (Because when they celebrate theirs, I might be a little bit, uhm, edgy? We'll see...)

But today, dear readers, as I type this blog, I can only think of two words that would bring me such happiness.

Wanna know what they are?

Say it with me....

SPRING. BREAK.

(Woooooooo Mu-FAHsa! Say it again!)

I may not get paid a whole lot as a professor of music, but one of the perks- every eight weeks I get a full week off. LOOOOOOOVVVE!

Oh- you don't get one? I'm really sorry. (Sincerely!) Maybe it should be a new law? Maybe we should storm Congress? I mean.... if they can demand more taxes, do we not have the right to band together and demand Spring Break for ALL?

Hmmmmm.... I may be on to something here.

Yours, considering a trip to the capital- AFTER Spring Break ;) ,

Friday Funny!

When I first found out we were having a baby, I had all of these ideas of how everything would be. Of course, it was a picture perfect world. Our children would be so well behaved, geniuses, and be speaking fluent French by the age of five. HA-HA! Life was somewhat idyllic when they were infants. Once they became mobile, it was over. Little by little Z1, and then eventually Z2, completely changed my perspective on how life was shaping up to be. Fluent French? Surely I jest! These days I'm happy to be able to get a complete thought out of my mouth without being interrupted or having the sentence finished for me. In fact, I'm beginning a whole list of thoughts. . . the ones I never knew I would say as a parent. . .

1.) No, honey, your T-Rex does not eat the Baby Jesus or the Wise Men.

2.) Son-of-mine, WHY are you wearing 13 pairs of underwear? (I'm telling you, his underwear area looked like one of those plastic, molded Superman figurines).

3.) Little Bear, what kind of dance is that? (This was after I told him to "Get up and shake it off.")

4.) Hey! Hey! How did you get up to the top shelf in the pantry? (I said THIS when he was about 10 months old. This was the day my reality changed).

5.) No, you may not fluff (Pass gas) on demand.

I'll try to post more as the day goes by and I remember them. Would LOVE to hear YOUR sentences.. . .

Change is Comin'!

It's the Monday Minute! Tune-in Tuesday Debate! Wednesday Whatever. . .  Thursday Thought and Friday Funny!

Yep, we will be attempting to be going to a new format just to bring a little order to the chaos.  We also like routine. We are, after all, moms. And you know what happens when routine gets unexpectedly blown out of the water. Well, it can all go to heck if you can't recover.

So the Monday minute will be something short and sweet- just enough to get us going for the day.  And I've got to write it in a minute or less. (Oh, Help me!)

Tune-in Tuesday Debate- This is YOUR time to get involved. Each Tuesday we will post a question about family and kids and parenthood that will undoubtedly cause a surge of opinion. We want to hear from you! So, comment away.

Wednesday is whatever. It could be anything. you'll have to check us out to see.

Thursday Thoughts- anything from something sweet, to inspiring, to thought provoking.

Friday Funny- must read as you hear funny family stories. It will make you feel more normal. And who knows- send us your funny story and you, too, might become part of our blog.

So that's my minute for Monday.

See you tomorrow!

Melissa
